University of Sharjah and Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation Partner to Provide Athletes with Oral and Dental Care
The University of Sharjah (UoS), represented by its University Dental Hospital Sharjah (UDHS), has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation (SWSF). The agreement aims to develop comprehensive programs focused on oral and dental health care for female athletes, aligning with Sharjah’s broader vision for sustainable development and enhancing quality of life.
The partnership includes providing specialized preventive and treatment services such as early screenings, therapy, and educational awareness, with priority given to appointment scheduling. A dedicated dentist will be stationed at the SWFS’s headquarters to ensure ongoing care. The agreement also supports deploying a mobile dental clinic at sporting events, the creation of custom sports mouthguards in collaboration with accredited laboratories, and the development of tailored treatment plans based on thorough clinical assessments.
Beyond direct care, the collaboration extends into research, with applied studies planned in key areas such as temporomandibular joint disorders, periodontal disease, and sports-related oral injuries.
His Professor Esameldin Agamy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, expressed pride in the partnership, emphasizing the University's openness to collaboration with national organizations that serve the community. He highlighted that this initiative would launch innovative projects to protect and enhance female athletes’ health, reflecting the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and directives from His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, to support sustainable development.
Vice Chairperson of Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation, Hanan Al Mahmoud, described the memorandum as a significant step in the foundation’s efforts to develop an integrated health and academic system. She noted that it introduces specialized preventive and therapeutic services while opening avenues for research and awareness that will strengthen athletes’ readiness and sustain their competitive performance. “Investing in oral health means investing directly in the confidence and success of female athletes at both local and international levels,” she added.
The memorandum establishes a formal and sustainable framework ensuring continuous screenings, treatments, educational initiatives, and research efforts. This solidifies the SWSF’s position as a pillar of support for women’s sports and enhances athletes’ preparedness to elevate their achievements on various stages.
