University of Sharjah Rises in Global Sustainability Rankings, Reaching No. 27 Worldwide in Quality Education

The University of Sharjah (UoS) made yet another notable global achievement, joining the 101–200 band in the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026, which assess how higher education institutions around the world advance the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The result marks a significant leap from last year’s 201–300 band and reflects the University’s rising standing on the international academic stage.

The University’s improved global position was driven by strong performance across most of the Sustainable Development Goals. It earned a place among the world’s top 100 universities in five of the goals and ranked 27th in quality education. It also ranked No. 47 in good health and well-being, No. 64 in responsible consumption and production, No. 66 in peace, justice and strong institutions, and No. 98 in reduced inequalities.

In his statement remarking on this significant achievement, H.E. Prof. Esameldin Agamy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, extended his congratulations to H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University. Prof. Agamy also stressed that the result reflects Sheikh Sultan’s vision of strengthening the University’s role as a leading academic and research institution with sustainability at the heart of its strategy.

Prof. Agamy remarked that the University’s advance in the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact ratings shows its commitment to translating the Sustainable Development Goals into concrete programs, policies and practices that reach from classrooms to research laboratories and community service initiatives. He said the leap from the 201–300 band to the 101–200 band was the result of the UoS’s coordinated institutional efforts and staunch strategies for embedding sustainability across all its activities. He added that the No. 27 ranking in quality education underscores the strength of the University’s academic output and the distinction of its programs.

He added that the inclusion of the University’s performance on five Sustainable Development Goals among the world’s top 100, along with notable progress in the remaining goals and indicators, reflects the expanding reach of its research and community impact and the breadth of its contributions to sustainable development at both the local and global levels.

The Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Ratings are among the world’s most prominent rankings, measuring how strongly universities engage with sustainability and social responsibility. They place institutions on the global higher education map based on real societal impact. Thousands of universities around the world take part each year, and the ranking is based on rigorous methodology that has made it an increasingly trusted benchmark for academic institutions and governments alike.
