University of Sharjah Launches Initiative to Boost Students’ Psychological Resilience and Flexibility

In a move to highlight the importance of mental health awareness, the University of Sharjah recently hosted a dynamic event aimed at strengthening students’ psychological resilience and promoting positive coping strategies for life’s challenges.

Organized by the College of Medicine in partnership with the University Medical Clinic and the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, the event featured an insightful lecture titled "How to Handle Adversity and Build Psychological Flexibility." Delivered by Dr. Hamid Al-Hajj, a consultant psychiatrist and chair of the Family and Community Medicine, and Behavioral Sciences Department at the University, the lecture offered science-backed guidance tailored to students’ needs. Alongside the talk, attendees benefited from a range of health screenings and a dedicated mental health awareness booth.

Further enriching the experience, the Counseling and Psychological Support Department, Deanship of Student Affairs collaborated with the University’s art studio, sports complex, and the College of Medicine’s Student Council to host interactive activities. These included positive dialogue sessions, gratitude exercises, relaxation techniques, as well as artistic and sporting events designed to nurture mental balance and wellness among female students.
