University of Sharjah Welcomes Delegation from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China
The University of Sharjah (UoS) welcomed an academic delegation from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), led by its President, Professor Hu Jun, as part of its ongoing efforts to foster international partnerships with leading academic institutions worldwide.
Located in Sichuan Province, UESTC is among China’s foremost universities specializing in electronics and information technology, with a distinguished global reputation for academic and research excellence.
The delegation was received by His Excellency Professor Esameldin Agamy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, who extended a warm welcome to His Excellency Professor Hu Jun and his accompanying delegation. In his remarks, Professor Agamy provided an overview of the University of Sharjah’s colleges and diverse undergraduate and graduate academic programs. He highlighted the University’s steady progress in global rankings, its rising research standing, and the expanding community of students and graduates.
Professor Agamy also spoke about the UoS’s development since its founding in 1997, describing it as both horizontal, through the establishment of new colleges, programs, and research institutes, and vertical, through improvements in research quality and infrastructure. He emphasized that UoS now operates as a comprehensive institution with centers of excellence, specialized research groups, and innovative programs aligned with labor market needs, supported by strong connections with the community and industry.
During the meeting, both sides discussed potential areas of collaboration, including the launch of joint academic programs, dual-degree options, faculty and student exchange initiatives, and opportunities for joint scientific research aligned with both institutions’ strategic priorities.
Attending the meeting from the University of Sharjah were Professor Yousef Haik, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Professor Maamar Bettayeb, Vice Chancellor for Graduate Studies and Research, Professor Abdul Wahab Bin Mohammad, Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Abbes Amira, Dean of the College of Computing and Informatics, Professor Abdelaziz Soufyane, Director of the Office of International Relations, and Professor Mohamed Adel Serhani, Deputy Director of the Office of International Relations .
Representing UESTC were President Professor Hu Jun, Professor Luo Deyuan, Head of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Professor Zhang Yaxin, Dean of the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Professor Shang Shuo, from the School of Computer Science and Engineering, Mr. Zhang Jun, Head of the School of Information and Software Engineering, and Mr. Gao Shiquan, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange.
The visit concluded with productive discussions highlighting a shared commitment to academic excellence and global research collaboration, paving the way for a stronger partnership between the two universities in technology, innovation, and education.
