In its continuous efforts to enhance community engagement and improve quality of life for senior citizens, the University of Sharjah has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Emirates Friends of Senior Citizens Association. The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation in training, scientific research, and health services designed to support one of the most valued segments of society.
The MoU was signed by Dr. Salah Taher Al Haj, Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs at the University of Sharjah, and Ms. Maryam Salem Al Salman, Chairperson of the Association. The ceremony was attended by Prof. Qutaiba Hamid, Vice Chancellor for Medical and Health Sciences Colleges, along with several faculty members and association representatives.
Under the agreement, both parties will collaborate to advance education, training, and research in the field of elderly care. This includes developing the skills and qualifications of staff working with senior citizens, as well as organizing joint conferences, seminars, and community events that promote healthy aging and quality of life. The partnership also provides for the exchange of expertise, innovation, and modern technologies, while supporting joint clinical and research initiatives in healthcare. By engaging in this partnership, UoS reaffirmed its dedication to national initiatives that enhance the wellbeing of senior citizens and improve the quality of services available to them. This includes comprehensive healthcare programs provided through specialized mobile clinics, the University Dental Hospital, and other health-focused initiatives.
During the signing ceremony, both sides highlighted the significance of this collaboration, emphasizing that it aligns with the University of Sharjah’s mission to serve society and translate knowledge into practical solutions through active partnerships with different sectors of society. Accordingly, this new partnership is expected to mark a key milestone in combining academic excellence with community service. It will enable both institutions to leverage the University of Sharjah’s academic and scientific resources to develop tailored training and research programs that meet the needs of senior citizens.
Both parties agreed to form a joint committee to oversee the implementation of the MoU, ensure effective coordination, and follow up on shared projects and initiatives. The committee will work to achieve mutual goals in strengthening public health and advancing elderly care programs in Sharjah and across the United Arab Emirates.
