H.H. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi Congratulates the University of Sharjah on another Huge Achievement University of Sharjah Tops UAE in U.S. News Rankings, Soars 106 Places in QS World University Rankings

Sharjah’s academic community is celebrating a remarkable achievement as the University of Sharjah (UoS) clinched the top spot among UAE universities in the prestigious U.S. News & World Report’s Best Global Universities rankings. The university also made a dramatic leap of 106 places in the QS World University Rankings, climbing to 328th worldwide; a record-setting rise that underscores its growing international stature.

His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University expressed immense pride in the University’s ascent in global rankings. He emphasized that such accomplishments reflect the institution’s distinguished standing both locally and internationally. Sheikh Sultan attributed this success to the unwavering support and close oversight of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, and Ruler of Sharjah, as well as the dedication of the Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, and the relentless drive of the students, whom he described as the cornerstone of the University’s journey.

His Highness also highlighted that excellence at the University of Sharjah is measured not only by numbers, but also by the University’s impact on scientific, research, social, and humanitarian spheres. He described this milestone as a defining moment in UoS’s history, reflecting its rising reputation in scientific research, academic distinction, and international engagement.

Looking ahead, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi reaffirmed the University’s commitment to research-driven education and to forging strategic partnerships with leading academic institutions worldwide. He stressed the importance of cultivating a dynamic and inclusive academic environment to sustain progress in global rankings and to continue striving for even greater heights of excellence and leadership.

The U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities ranking is widely regarded as one of the most authoritative and reliable academic rankings worldwide. It evaluates universities based on thirteen objective indicators, focusing on research output, international academic influence, publication volume, citation impact, research reputation, and global collaboration. Its rigorous, data-driven methodology makes it a trusted reference for students, researchers, and educational institutions, covering over 2,000 universities from more than 100 countries.

The University of Sharjah’s impressive leap in the 2026 QS World University Rankings from 434th to 328th marks one of the largest annual improvements globally. This achievement further cements the University’s expanding international footprint at a time when global competition in higher education is fiercer than ever. The UoS continues to drive innovation and academic development, boasting over 20,000 students from more than 95 nationalities, 15 colleges, 147 academic programs, and 80 research groups.

The QS World University Rankings, published annually by the UK-based Quacquarelli Symonds, is among the most influential global university rankings. It assesses institutions based on six key metrics: academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-to-student ratio, research citations, and international diversity among both students and faculty. The ranking’s balanced approach to research, academic quality, and global engagement makes it a vital resource for international students and universities alike, encompassing more than 1,500 universities from over 100 countries.
