Under the theme “Discover, Observe, Innovate,” the Sharjah Space and Astronomy Hub (SSAH) at the University of Sharjah hosted the Cosmic Discovery Camp 2026, a three-day program designed to spark young people’s curiosity about space and astronomy through a hands-on blend of science, observation and technology.

The camp offered participants an immersive introduction to astronomy, cosmology and space engineering, combining classroom knowledge with practical experimentation. Through a series of interactive activities, participants explored the fundamentals of observation and scientific inquiry while developing the skills of critical thinking, observation, discovery and innovation.

The program featured a wide range of scientific and hands-on workshops. Participants studied the Sun, explored the properties of light and learned techniques for safe solar observation. They also delved into galaxies, the evolution and expansion of the universe, as well as space science and engineering. In one practical exercise, they designed a model satellite for Earth observation and remote sensing, gaining firsthand insight into the scientific and technological applications of satellites and their growing importance.

Fatima Mohammed Al Khatri, director of the Sharjah Planetarium, said the camp provided an integrated educational experience in which participants could learn and explore in an interactive scientific environment. Programs of this kind, she said, offer young people new ways of learning, broaden their horizons and give them opportunities to discover their scientific interests and passions. They also help nurture enthusiasm for space and astronomy while encouraging young people to explore science, technology, innovation and other fields shaping the future.

The camp concluded with a special presentation at the Sharjah Planetarium titled “A 360-Degree Journey into Space Exploration.” Participants embarked on an immersive journey through the universe, exploring different dimensions of space exploration while learning about the United Arab Emirates’ achievements in the field. The event concluded with the presentation of certificates of participation in recognition of the participants’ involvement in the camp’s activities.
