Sharjah Space and Astronomy Hub Inspires Children to Learn about Celestial Bodies
In an effort to spread scientific and astronomical knowledge while nurturing a new generation’s fascination with space, the Sharjah Space and Astronomy Hub (SSAH), part of the University of Sharjah, organized a two-day interactive workshop titled “Build the Solar System.” The program was designed for children aged 6 to 12, accompanied by their parents, and aimed to introduce them to the components of the solar system in a simple, engaging way that blended learning with play.
The workshop drew strong participation from children who took part in an enjoyable educational experience that combined hands-on activity with learning. They explored the planets, their features and the structure of the solar system through interactive exercises and age-appropriate science questions crafted to spark curiosity and encourage a love of learning.
The program included practical activities such as coloring the planets in their true colors, learning about their most notable characteristics, and designing and assembling solar system models. This allowed participants to turn scientific concepts into tangible models, helping reinforce what they learned in a fun and interactive setting.
A dedicated segment then gave the children the opportunity to present the models they had made and share the knowledge they had gained during the workshop. This helped strengthen their communication skills and encouraged them to explain what they had learned to peers and family members.
The event concluded with a virtual journey through the solar system inside the Sharjah Planetarium, giving participants the chance to view the planets up close in a rich visual experience that deepened what they had absorbed during the workshop and strengthened their connection to the world of space and astronomy.
