SAASST to Celebrate World Space Week 2025

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) at the University of Sharjah is set to host an exciting series of events from October 4 to 10 in honor of World Space Week 2025. Under the inspiring theme "Living in Space," the academy aims to ignite public curiosity and raise awareness about the vital role space plays in everyday life, with a particular focus on engaging youth and students.

The week-long celebration promises an array of immersive activities designed to spark scientific enthusiasm. New shows at the Sharjah Planetarium will feature four captivating presentations, complemented by interactive stations such as "Imagine Other Worlds" and "The Time Capsule," inviting visitors to explore the cosmos from fresh perspectives. Participants will also have the opportunity to dive deep into cutting-edge topics through three specialized workshops, covering astrobiology, life’s potential beyond Earth, and the use of artificial intelligence in classifying astronomical images.

Complementing the workshops, seven expert lectures will tackle themes ranging from habitability and stability of exoplanets to interstellar travel and high-energy cosmic radiation. Attendees can also experience hands-on simulations that recreate the conditions astronauts face, offering a glimpse into the challenges of life in space.

World Space Week, an annual global event inaugurated in 1999 and organized by the United Nations in partnership with the World Space Week Association, commemorates two milestones in space exploration: the launch of Sputnik 1 on October 4, 1957, the world’s first artificial satellite, and the signing of the Outer Space Treaty on October 10, 1967. This historic week celebrates humanity’s quest to understand and explore the cosmos, uniting communities worldwide in science, technology, and discovery.
