1- Two SREE teams of students made two solar water purifier systems.
Sustainable and Renewable Energy Engineering Student Projects are recognized by local media i.e. Alkhaleej News Paper and Al-Emarat Al-Yaoum.
Two teams of SREE students supervised by Dr. Salih Akour made two solar water purifier systems. The first system uses direct sun light to evaporate the sea water that is placed at the stairway like surface. Transparent glass plate is utilized to cover the stairway like surface which is painted by black color to maximize the solar energy absorption. The glass plate not only traps the solar energy provide the necessary amount heat energy for water evaporation but also works as condensation surface for collecting the clean water. Due to the inclination of the glass surface the pure water drops will roll down to collecting reservoir where the pure water accumulates. The system of approximately 2 square meters is capable of collecting one liter of pure water per hour.
The other system is approximately quarter in size of the first one and it has the same capacity of producing pure water. This system it has almost the same design except it utilizes flat lenses to concentrate the solar energy to compensate the size difference. Also a small fan is used to blow air at the glass surface to speed the condensation process of water vapor. The fan is operated by electrical energy produced by PV cells. Such systems can be enhanced and utilized in larger scale.
2- SREE students presented environment friendly model of green building
Sustainable and Renewable Energy Engineering Students Participated in the Food and Environment Convention and Exhibit that was held At the University of Sharjah, Kalba Branch in February 19, 2013. The students supervised by Dr. Salih Akour presented environment friendly model of green building. The project attracted the attention of the audience and the participants. The building model was designed by utilizing the passive solar cooling principles, i.e. building orientation with respect to the solar path, the position of windows, the position of the trees, the insulation of walls and windows, the size and the position of shading, etc.
3- Masdar Institute Day at the University of Sharjah will be on Monday Oct. 31, 2011 .
4- SREE students attended the Sustainability, Energy and Enviro. Conf. 2011 on Sunday 18, Sep. 2011, 11:00AM‐04:30PM, at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center .
