On behalf of our faculty and staff, I welcome you to the website of the College of Dentistry which commenced in year 2004 and has so far graduated two classes of dental students. Today, the College has two buildings, one academic building called the College of Dentistry and another clinical building called the University Dental Hospital. Both buildings are side by side within the Colleges of Medicine and Health Sciences Campus. Students enjoy the learning environment, experience the art and science of dentistry based on an evidence based program, which is structured on the University of Adelaide, South Australian Dental Curriculum. This interesting curriculum teaches students to understand how the human body works during normal times and how our body responds to traumatic injury and diseases caused by microorganisms and other causes. Students will learn the whole human medicine in general but emphasize problems of the teeth, jaws and face in greater detail. Clinical teaching starts very early in the first year, unlike other dental programs that use the traditional curriculum. Thus the clinical experience generated in our curriculum is much longer and more extensive. Communication skills, leadership quality, ethics and professionalism are nurtured among the students to ensure they succeed in this challenging professional career. Implementation of all these elements of professional education have been made possible through a team of dedicated academic faculty, very diverse in training background but very cohesive and focus in achieving our goals. Students, faculty and staff enjoy their training program in the ‘Teaching Clinics’ where clinical year dental students treat dental patients including their brothers and sisters, families and friends. This is a unique experience not present in any other professional medical and health science program. The College of Dentistry shall strive hard to deliver high quality dental education to its students. We always welcome visitors from High School students to visit our College to have a closer look at the training of dentists in action!
