Overview of English Language Center Programs

At the University’s main campus, the English Language Centers offers the following programs, each lasting one semester:

Intensive English Program
(IEP):

·  Foundation 1: this consists of 25 hours per week of classroom instruction in listening, speaking, reading, writing and introduction to the IELTS exam/project.
·  Foundation Level 2: this consists of 25 hours per week of classroom instruction in listening, speaking, reading, writing, project work and IELTS exam preparation.
     ·  Preparatory 3 and 4: each of these levels consists of 20 hours per week of classroom instruction in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and either IELTS or TOEFL preparation. Students in these levels are permitted (as the University timetable permits) to take two Arabic-medium courses which count toward the requirements of their majors.
Special Skills Program: this comprises courses in listening, speaking, reading or writing, each of 3 hours per week. They are mandatory courses for students who have entered their majors, but have not successfully achieved an IELTS Band score of 5 in one or more of the IELTS skill components.

On the Khor Fakkan Campus, the same programs are offered, with the exception of the Special Skills Program. However, unlike the main campus, in Khor Fakkan only IELTS exam preparation is available due to student demand. Here, female students attend classes in the mornings from 08.00 – 14.00.
