The programme emphasis is on fashion design with fashion textiles as a complementary component.
Using innovative approaches to the fashion and textile design process, together with a critical analysis of the historic, social and cultural context of fashion and textiles, the programme equips students with the knowledge, skills and attitude to develop into innovative, professional fashion designers, ready to take on the challenges of the vibrant, exciting and fast-paced global fashion and textile design industry.
Study is concentrated on research-led, studio-based projects, using traditional and digital processes.
These include pattern cutting, draping, garment construction, textile printing, dyeing, embroidery, illustration and digital design.
Students also gain wider knowledge and understanding of the local and international fashion industry through research visits, industry- set team projects and internship.
The final year of the programme involves the research and completion of a self- directed collection for presentation at the graduation show.
The most beneficial aspect of combining fashion design with textile design is that it opens doors for students to develop a unique identity, in line with contemporary professional fashion designers.
The BA Fashion Design with Textiles programme framework comprises a four-year full time mode of study including a common year of Foundation in Art and Design during the first stage of the programme together with 30 credit hours to fulfil general University requirements and electives.
