She completed her bachelor degree in Architecture from the University of Baghdad, and graduate degrees from MIT and the University of Pennsylvania.
Prior to joining UoS, Dr. Alhasani was Dean of Academic Operations at the Higher Colleges of Technology (2016-2018), Dean of Student Life and founding Director of the Women in Science and Engineering Program (WiSE) at the Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi (2007-2016). She held the position of Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (2003-2006) and Chair of Architecture and Interior Design (2000-2002) at the American University of Sharjah, as well as teaching positions at the University of Pennsylvania, Miami of Florida, Notre Dame of Indiana, and Michigan. She is the recipient of the 2016 Khalifa Award for Education, 2006-7 Research Fellow at the Aga Khan Program at MIT, 1994 National ACSA Faculty Teaching Award, Washington DC, , 1992 Graham Foundation Grant, Chicago, and 1990-91 Willard A. Oberdick Fellowship in the Building Sciences from the University of Michigan.
Appointed as a member of the Task Force on the Teaching of Science in the Muslim World, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2014-2015) and, most recently, to the Academy of Engineering and Technology of the Developing World (AETDEW) under the auspice of the UNESCO (2016-2018).
