In my first year as an assistant professor at Concordia University, my focus was to establish good rapport with students and to deliver courses professionally and conscientiously. I learned whatever I needed to master this task by exploring numerous techniques and strategies. The students’ evaluations gave me the feedback required to gauge the progress I was making as a professor. In my second year of teaching, recognition came in the form of a teaching excellence award accorded by the Canadian Society for Industrial Engineering, the Concordia University Chapter. Since then, I have made effort to maintain excellence in teaching. I believe that commitment to teaching and making students enjoy attending classes have contributed significantly to this success. As a professor, I have always adopted a learner-centred approach and deemed my students' feedback on my performance vital for my career. In addition, I have always made sure my students feel fully capable of succeeding in the course, making them feel at ease in expressing divergent views and asking questions, using pertinent, innovative, and evolving teaching methods tailored to students' needs, using real life situations as much as possible, inspiring class confidence in my knowledge of the subject matter, and making myself easily accessible to all my students, be it in connection with a course or in connection with students' extracurricular activities.
