Welcome to the Department of English Language and Literature (DELL), one of the largest departments at the University of Sharjah, and thank you for visiting our website. Our department awards a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language and Literature and a Master of Arts degree in Translation. At the undergraduate level, our program offers two major tracks: Linguistics and Translation and Literature and Translation, to address the students' academic needs by helping them develop their competence in these fields. At the graduate level, our MA program is designed to provide students with sound theoretical and practical knowledge of the principles, methods and strategies of English-Arabic-English translation to help them develop into confident, successful translators. Graduates of our translation program are well-equipped to fill important positions in the fields of education, communication, business and diplomacy, and may go on successfully to pursue graduate studies in translation or contrastive linguistics at universities across the Arab world and beyond.
In both tracks, our faculty, competitively selected professors and instructors, are committed to providing excellent instruction and an outstanding learning environment for our students. They adopt a student-centered teaching outlook, foster individualized instruction approaches and make every effort to provide our students with the kind of attention they need to be able to excel. We take pride in being a friendly and dedicated community of teachers well-known for excellence in teaching, research and other related activities.
