Chair's Welcome

As the Head of Pharmacy Practice and Pharmacotherapeutics Department (PP&PTD), College of Pharmacy (CoP), University of Sharjah (UoS), it is an honor to be able to name you as one of our highly esteemed students in this college.  It has been 10 years since our first batch graduated and the journey since then has not only been enriching for the students but has also been a great platform for us to learn as well from a total of 120 male and female students registered every year to study pharmacy and obtain a BPharm degree at our college.

It is important to know that the department's vision is completely encapsulated in the college's vision; a vision, which reflects a national ambition for progress and modernity, yet, at the same time, preserves national culture, traditions and identity. The PP&PTD as in the case of the CoP, UoS, believes that teaching, research and training practice need to constantly evolve. Thus for this to happen, we maintain an environment open to innovation, fosters creativity and favors the emergence of centers of excellence. Such an environment also requires an extraordinary infrastructure that actively promotes academic communication and interaction. Requirements that is all nurtured and available at the UoS and CoP.

As you step in into the world to become a part of an esteemed cluster of pharmacists, I must say you should truly consider yourself privileged to have reached that position through as respected an institution as the UoS. This is because you have had the rare opportunity to benefit from our exceptionally  state of the art facilities and highly qualified academic staff  who shall guide you through your scientific journey  and provide you with a once in a lifetime opportunity to gain a level of education that would enable you to make a difference in the community.  Many students who come to university think that their main purpose is to gain knowledge.  But let me tell you this, success at the university not only depends on the various sciences you learn but also the application of your knowledge to the benefit of mankind and this is a landmark of our philosophy at our department.  Since you have started this journey, it is now your duty to prove that you can excel not only in academic activities but in demonstrating creativity, originality and innovative abilities as well.  It is also your turn to carry on the name of the CoP with as much respect, loyalty and grandeur that it demands and take forward that torch of knowledge.

Taking into consideration the recent changes in the trend of pharmacy practice and pharmacy education, we at the PP&PTD, believe that it is important to keep up with these changes to enhance our strategies of teaching/learning, our ways of research and accordingly advance our standards for the experiential training programs.  We also aim at crowning these progressively evolving trends a touch of innovation.  For those of you, who will continue to pursue a higher level of education, be assured that you will always be welcomed in our department and shall receive all the help you need.  Whilst those of you, who are planning to venture into the strenuous path of work opportunities, remember, respect for yourself, your career and your seniors, is the key to success in that field.   All in all, please do pay attention to everything around you while you are studying courses delivered by our department and make sure that you are benefiting from the remarkable teaching/learning and research experience of our faculty. Do utilize the fascinating laboratory facilities to your maximum as practical classes will help you to be a competent pharmacist with a prosperous future. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon you.
