The aim of the medicinal chemistry department is to create new knowledge for the discovery and development of new pharmaceutical drugs. Our undergraduate students receive a diverse educational experience at the interface between chemistry and biology, which prepares them for the evolving multidisciplinary research of the drug design and discovery arena. Our faculties are nationally and internationally recognized for their innovative scientific contributions in basic and applied research. Our current research foci are cancer, neurodegenerative (Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases) and related anti-infective lead drug design and discovery. The department has excellent facilities for research in the major areas of Medicinal Chemistry and faculties have been highly successful in attracting continuing, extramural research support. We are proud of our record of training outstanding graduate students who now enjoy fruitful careers in academia, the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, as well as with government and other regulatory agencies.
