Department Overview
The department is a hub of the basic medical sciences (Anatomy, Physiology, Immunology , Biochemistry and Genetics Disciplines) in the medical program and other programs in dentistry and pharmacy colleges. Faculty takes pride in achieving excellence in education, research and community service.  The teaching mission of the department is integrated along structural and functional lines in order to provide medical, dental and pharmacy students a solid background and understanding in Human Anatomy, Histology, Human Physiology, Clinical Physiology, Genetics and Biochemistry to serve as lifelong foundation for clinical practice.

The main research interests of faculty members of the Department can be summarized into the following areas: physiology of pulmonary function, osteoporosis, in-vitro fertilization, type II diabetes, susceptibility genes, Women's health and physiology of menopause and medical education in the integrated curriculum. 

An important mission of the BMS department is service to community. The faculty takes this responsibility seriously and contributes countless hours to a wide range of community awareness activities especially in the women’s health domain through establishing the first Emirates Menopause Society which helps in raising the awareness of women to all physiological and psychological changes in this age.
