His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah, welcomed recently the 2006 Noble Peace Prize Laureate, Professor Muhammad Yunus, who delivered the keynote address at the UOS International Conference on Excellence in Business.

The conference was organized by the College of Business Administration from 9th-10th May 2012. Noble Peace Prize Laureate, Professor Muhammad Yunus, discussed in his speech the new business theme known as, “Social Business.” A total of 171 scholars, from across the world, submitted research papers for consideration to be presented at the conference. After careful review, approximately 75 scholars from 20 different countries were selected to present their research on various issues in the fields of business and economics. Harvard University professor, James Robinson, delivered the keynote speech to conclude the conference entitled, “Why Nations Fail.” The conference received global attention and was covered by the media worldwide.
On the sidelines of the conference, Professor Samy A. Mahmoud, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, met with Professor Muhammad Yunus, and discussed the distinguished efforts of Professor Yunis in the area of socio-economic development from which millions around the world have benefitted. They further discussed the concept of microcredit, a concept originated by Professor Yunus, and Grameen Bank, which he established and is known worldwide.
