Sharjah Institute for Translation was established in accordance with the directions of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al-Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the UAE, Ruler of Sharjah and the Supreme President of the University of Sharjah, in order to provide basic and practical training in translation especially from Arabic to English and vice versa . This initiative comes in response to the vital role of English as an international language, the growing influence of the Arab World on world affairs and the effects of globalization on regional development especially in the gulf area. All these factors resulted in an increased demand for highly qualified translators and interpreters. This emphasizes the need to provide training opportunities to those interested in pursuing a career in this field. Therefore, the Sharjah Institute for Translation offers a variety of basic training programs for those wishing to qualify as translators in addition to advanced programs that aim to provide practitioners the opportunity to improve their existing skills and keeping up-to-date with recent developments in the field.
The Institute is seeking to develop the efficiency of the trainee in basic skills. Moreover, the courses offered by the institute are especially designed to suit the needs of those who Want to work in translation field with appropriate Arabic and English language skills and relevant university qualifications in either humanities or science. These courses are designed not only to fulfill local needs and to meet the institutional standards, but also to improve the quality and the quantity of translation process to reach the international recognized standards. Therefore, all courses will be based on scientific basics and will offer different texts from various fields of knowledge according to the style used in international tests to evaluate the translator's efficiency.
The program covers the basic principles of English - Arabic translation process in different types of texts and various fields of knowledge (law, politics, economy, science and technology). The program is characterized by its comprehensiveness as it consists of seven courses, which provide the trainees advanced methods and skills that would raise the participant's level to the highest degree of professionalism.
