Objective 1: To be a focal point of research into microbial biofilms and infection whilst fostering interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary research activities of the Colleges of Medicine, Health Sciences, Pharmacy and Dental Medicine.
Objective 2: To assist develop research components in the undergraduate and postgraduate curricula of the CDM, and establish a mentorship program for PhD students in oral biofilm biology in health and disease
Objective 3: To promote research collaboration with local, and international research groups, centers and universities
Objective 4: To represent UoS at local, regional and international research venues in order to increase the visibility and the presence of CDM and its research, and in the longer term to be an internationally recognized nexus of oral biofilm research and discovery in the region.
Objective 1: To explore the intimate interactions within oral biofilm communities, particularly inter-kingdom interactions between fungi (Candida) and bacteria
Objective 2 To fabricate, develop and evaluate a new in situ model system for cariogenesis, and explore its translational potential for drug delivery
Objective 3: To evaluate the mechanisms of probiotic bacteria in suppressing oral candidal diseases
Objective 4: To examine the microbiome and the ultrastructure of the endodontic biofilms with particular reference to failed root canal therapy
Objective 5: To create a database of oral infections and the antibiotic sensitivity patterns of the oral biofilms and related microbiota in Sharjah and the Gulf region.
