Good Academic Writing

Publish or perish` is a dictum that is truer today for academics than ever before. The objective of the Good Academic Writing seminar series is to provide an opportunity, particularly for the relatively junior academic staff of the University, to sharpen their objectivity, and skill set required to enrich their writing skills, in order to increase the likelihood of acceptance of manuscripts at quality scientific venues, as well as success in grantsmanship. 
These foundation seminars will provide the necessary information on what, how and why of good academic writing and explains the conventions and expectations of journal editors and grant reviewers. It is hoped that such outcomes will help participants express their academic voice and contribute to eventual career success.
 
Is it for you?
The seminars will be open to all academic staff of the University of Sharjah, and the junior academic staff stand to gain most from the seminars.

Meet Your Faculty
ØProfessor Maamar Bettayeb, is the Vice-Chancellor for Research and Graduate  Studies, University of Sharjah
Ø Professor Qutayba Hamid is the Vice-Chancellor and Dean College of Medicine. He is an internationally renowned  Researcher on the pathogenesis of pulmonary diseases (h index  112)
Ø Professor Lakshman Samaranayake is one of the top ten, highest cited scholars in dentistry (h index 78). He is also   the founding editor in chief of Journal of Investigative and Clinical dentistry (Wiley)
Ø Prof Salman Guraya has vast experience in scientific publications, academic  writing, and research ethics pertaining to publishing research work. He is the editor of several biomedical journals under Elsevier and Wolter’s Kluwer.  
Ø Dr Rifat Akram Hamoudi, Associate Professor, College of Medicine, who has published widely in very high impact  factor journals such as Nature and Cell
Ø Dr Mohamed Rahmani, Associate Professor, College of Medicine, with varied expertise in grantsmanship, in several countries including USA.

Where and When?
Ø The seminars will be held weekly on Wednesday from Oct 17th till Dec. 5th , 2018, as per the attached schedule.
Ø All attendees who complete the Seminar Series will be given a certificate by UoS.
