Under the patronage and in the attendance of His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, the College of Sciences' Department of Mathematics organizes the "Second Sharjah International Mathematics Spring School." The event hosted a number of lectures by a selection of distinguished researchers in the field from around the world. Prof. Elsiddig Ahmed ElMustafa El Sheikh, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, attended the event along with Prof. Majid Merabti, Dean of the College of Sciences; Prof. Abdelaziz Soufyane, Head of the Department of Mathematics; as well as a number of the University's faculty members and graduate students.
In his inaugural speech, the Chancellor of the University welcomed the audience and commended the idea of the event. He stressed that mathematics is the basis of all sciences, and added that the University supports such events to continue annually due to their significance and impact. He added that mathematics will contribute significantly to the strategic plan of University of Sharjah as it is the core of the new College of Computing and Informatics. He also thanked the speakers and the attendees and the College of Sciences for organizing this event.
Four keynote speakers from the United States, India, Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Slovenia participated in the event, and fourteen papers were presented. 80 participants attended the event including professors and postgraduate students in mathematics. The Spring School discussed mathematics applications, especially in algebra and analysis, as well as the study of new techniques and methods in the application of mathematics.
