The University of Sharjah Alumni Association organized its first annual meeting under the title "With You We Continue Giving." His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, attended the meeting along with Prof. Maamar Bettayeb, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies; Dr. Salah Taher, Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs; Dr. Abdalla Salim Ali Bin Humouda Alktebi, President of the Association; as well as a number of the University's College Deans, Department Heads, Directors of Institutes, Centers, and Departments, and members of the Executive Committee of the Alumni Association fourth cycle.
The Chancellor started the meeting with a word welcoming the attendees of the Alumni Association and expressed his pride in this generation of the University's graduates who have completed their academic journeys at the University of Sharjah, and are coming back to it as successful professionals from various governmental departments, agencies, and entities as well as national and international companies. This is following the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah, who established the University as a national development project that ensures to prepare researchers, scientists, and professionals supported with knowledge, culture, and morals that make both the University and the UAE proud.
The Chancellor also mentioned that the number of the University's graduates reached 27 thousand up to this year. He urged the Executive Committee members to intensify their efforts to contact as many of the University's alumni to join the association and benefit from the services the University offers. This is in accordance with the practices of most international universities in which their alumni participate in multiple developmental projects as a valuable source of income and support in cooperation with their universities.
Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy also addressed the prestigious academic standing of the University nationally and regionally, as reported through the recent international classifications such as the QS and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. He added that the University now offers the largest number of higher education programs that meet the requirements of the job market, and is currently working on preparing its next five year strategic plan through which it will incorporate the most advanced international technologies in the field of teaching and learning.
Ending his address, the Chancellor of the University urged the alumni to form partnerships and cooperation agreements with the entities and institutions in the county as the University aims to serve the local community through its faculty's scientific research and academic expertise.
In his word, Dr. Salah Taher welcomed the attendees and reasserted that the goal of this meeting is to connect the Alumni Association with the University in order to provide the best services and assistance possible to the former's members. It is also an opportunity to open the door for ideas and visions exchange on the best way for cooperation as the University depends on its alumni with forming new agreements with the local entities and institutions.
For his part, the President of the Association Dr. Abdalla Alktebi gave an overview of the Association and its various activities, introduces the Executive Committee members and their duties, and highlighted the efforts of the Association in serving the University's graduates. The Association, he added, continuously organizes meetings, forums, and partnerships with governmental and private entities' representatives to study their job needs and fulfilling them with the University's graduates. Those efforts have recently amounted to providing 1300 different administrative job opportunities, the most of which will be allotted to the University of Sharjah graduates.
Following the addresses, the College Deans, Department Heads, and Directors of Institutes, Centers, and Departments at the University participated in a discussion during which they exchanged suggestions and visions and presented the services each of their departments, respectively, can offer the Alumni Association to aid in accomplishing its goals.
