As part of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi's, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah, project of strengthening the University's standing on the international level academically and scientifically, H.H. tasked His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, to lead a delegation comprised of Dr. Salah Taher, Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs; Prof. Abdul Sahib Mehdi Ali, Acting Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences; and Dr. Tarek Merabtene, Acting Director of the Office of International Relations, with the aim of inaugurating the Arabic Language Center at Xi'an International Studies University (XISU). His Highness ordered the establishment of this Center at XISU and under the supervision of the University of Sharjah. The Ruler of Sharjah also tasked the delegation with exploring areas for academic and scientific cooperation with Chinese universities, which included signing a cooperation agreement with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing.

The delegation visiting XISU in the Shaanxi Province in China participated in the new students welcoming ceremony as well as the inaugural ceremony for the Arabic Language Center during which His Excellency the Chancellor of the University gave an address relaying the greetings of His Highness the President of the University and stressed that the University is proud of this cooperation with XISU. He also gave a brief on the University of Sharjah and its accomplishments on the national and international scales as well as its leading standing on the international level in comparison to other academic institutions. His Excellency also expressed the readiness of the University to meet the requirements for establishing the Arabic Language Center at XISU by providing academic expertise and curriculums for teaching Arabic for non-native speakers. He also discussed future plans for establishing an Arabic Language Department at XISU.
The delegation also participated in the inauguration of the special educational Chinese/Foreign program for teaching the Arabic Language which is a joint cooperation effort between XISU and the University of Sharjah.
On the following day, the delegation had a meeting with XISU's Chancellor, Dean of the College of Graduate Studies, Dr. Yusuf Sarajaldin, and the Director of International Relations with the aim of exploring areas for further academic and research collaboration between both institutes in areas of common interest.
The delegation then visited Zhejiang Gongshang University (ZJGSU) for Industry and Business Sciences in Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province, China, which has strong ties with the University of Sharjah since October 2009. During the meeting with the President of ZJGSU and its various directors and deans, the delegation discussed a number of possible academic and scientific cooperation areas of interest to both parties and agreed on a project of offering joint programs in the fields of industry and business. They also discussed the project of establishing the Silk Road Institute at the University of Sharjah.
During their visit to the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) in Beijing, the delegation had a meeting with the Vice President of the Academy in the attendance of Prof. Cai Fang, Vice President and Member of the Leading Party Members' Group as well as a number of the Academy's representatives and faculty and staff members. The parties agreed on joint cooperation in research areas especially in archeology, smart city development, renewable and sustainable energy. Both parties also signed a cooperation agreement.
On the same day, the delegation met the Vice Dean of the College of Foreign Studies and Professor of Oriental Studies representing the Chancellor of Zhejiang Gongshang University (ZJGSU) for Industry and Business Sciences. Both parties explored joint cooperation possibilities and the representative stressed that ZJGSU's Chancellor is keen on signing a cooperation agreement himself during his visit to the University of Sharjah in the beginning of 2019. During their meeting, the delegation and the representative also explored areas in developing the Arabic Language program, student and faculty exchange, and possibilities of providing ZJGSU students with scholarships. The Office of International Relations at the University of Sharjah will undertake the Memorandum of Understanding preparations.
The delegation also met with the Director of the Arabic Language Institute at the China Center for International Educational Exchange (CCIEE) in Beijing. Both parties agreed to start working on a Memorandum of Understanding to include the University of Sharjah in the list of universities that welcome Chinese students interested in learning the Arabic Language. They also agreed to work on joint Bachelor's programs following a 2+2 system as well as providing the University of Sharjah's students with full scholarships to study at the Bachelor, Master's, and PhD levels in the Chinese universities. They also agreed to task the Office of International Universities at the University of Sharjah with preparing Memorandum of Understanding in the academic field as well as the consideration of the contracts and requirements for an exclusive mandate of marketing of the University of Sharjah in China through the CCIEE.
The delegation's last meeting in China was with His Excellency Dr. Ali Obaid Al Dhaheri, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the People's Republic of China. During their meeting, His Excellency the Ambassador listened to a brief by His Excellency the Chancellor of the University on their mission to China and their goals. He also shared the University's efforts for establishing strong cooperation and expertise exchange relations with Chinese universities following the directions of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University.
His Excellency the Ambassador confirmed the significance of this mission and expressed his readiness to provide assistance in meeting these goals. He also tasked the delegation with relaying his warmest greetings and appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi's, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah.
