His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah Congratulates the Two Chosen Emirati Astronauts

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah, congratulated the two chosen Emirati astronauts and expressed his, the UAE's, and the Arab and Islamic worlds' pride in them. He also wished them continued success in their international space mission. His Highness also extended his congratulations to all those working on the space projects, which he described as an outstanding international space project.

For his part, the President of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences and the Chancellor of the University of Sharjah His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy expressed his pride in the first two Arab astronauts from the UAE at the International Space Station. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, and Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, announced the selection of the two Emirati astronauts.

The two selected Emirati astronauts are Hazza Al Mansouri and Sultan Al Nayadi. His Excellency the Chancellor of the University added that both astronauts not only represent the youth of the UAE, but also the ambitious youth of the Arab world. He continued that those two first astronauts are the hope of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences along with all its scientists, specialists, and members as well as the whole of the Arab and Islamic worlds' communities.

The President of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences added that the United Arab Emirate through selecting its first astronauts is taking the next steps in supporting its winning the membership in the International Astronomical Union in the second category, and its ambitious project for space exploration through launching its Mars Mission (the Hope Mars Mission). He continued that the UAE's space project, which is parallel with international space ambitions, is directed by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, through the UAE Space Agency; along with His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah, through the Sharjah Center for Astronomy and Space Sciences (SCASS); and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, and Ruler of Dubai, through the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center; as well as Their Highnesses the Members of the Supreme Council and Rulers of the Emirates.

He continued assuring that the UAE will strengthen its membership in the International Astronomical Union using its aspirations in its space exploration program, which is continuously progressing, developing, and meetings its goals. He ended his address adding that the Sharjah Center for Astronomy and Space Sciences (SCASS) at the University of Sharjah will commit all its resources, whether scientific, technical, or administrative, to support this international mission.
