Coinciding with the start of the "UAE-China Week" and the visit of His Excellency President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China to the United Arab Emirates, the University of Sharjah ensures the strengthening of cultural connections and reinforces friendly relations and strategic cooperation between the UAE and China. The University of Sharjah has been strengthening its relations with the scientific accredited universities, institutes, and centers in China in areas of technology and logistics, history of science and Islamic civilization and culture, and e-commerce. In addition, the University actively works to develop the education and community service sectors as well as the training and scientific research sectors.
This exceptional collaboration represents an opportunity to increase the levels of academic exchange between faculty members and researches, student training, establishing joint academic programs, and encouraging research initiatives and education forums. It comes in light of the visits and cooperation agreements signed recently with Xi'an University, Zhejiang University of Science and Technology, and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
His Excellency Ambassador of the People's Republic of China Ni Jian reaffirmed during his previous meeting with His Excellency Prof. Hamid M. K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, his support of the efforts of the University in supporting cooperation and strong relations with the Chinese scientific universities, institutes, and centers. He also complimented the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of University of Sharjah, of developing the Arab and Islamic culture in Sharjah.
For his part, Dr. Salah Taher, Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs at the University, stressed that the University of Sharjah always aims to create connections and strengthen relations with accredited international universities. It also organizes and participates in workshops, training courses, and scientific forums and conferences of mutual interest such as its participation in "The University Alliance of the Silk Road" forum in China. This participation aims to strengthen and develop academic relations between the University of Sharjah and Chinese universities – especially Xi'an University. He continued, stressing the keenness of the University on exchanging the knowledge and expertise of its academic members with the goal of supporting the establishment of a joint academic program for teaching the Arabic language to Chinese students from Xi'an University at the UoS' Language Center. The program would also teach the Chinese language to the University of Sharjah students at its recently established Language Center in China. He also addressed the agreement for establishing a "Silk Road" institute at the University of Sharjah with the aim of supporting the student-training program, and the cooperation with Zhejiang University of Science and Technology for establishing a joint E-Commerce program.
