The UoS student chapter of the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry (AADMD) organized an awareness campaign on dental and general health under the title "Communication through Art." The campaign aimed to emphasize the healing power of art and music in developing communication skills, enhancing self-confidence, and improving the dental and general health of members of Al Thiqah Club for the Handicapped in Sharjah.
This campaign is the first activity organized by The American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry after choosing the University of Sharjah to be its students' chapter in the Middle East, through which it can organize medical awareness campaigns and initiatives to spread awareness about general and oral health.
The awareness day included 8 different workshops, the most prominent of which were story reading, expressive graffiti (a window through which people with disabilities could express themselves) and face painting. It also included communicating through music workshops as well as full medical checkups done by the University of Sharjah's Mobile Medical and Dental Clinics. The Mobile Dental Clinic also offered consultations and treatment plans for more than a 100 people with disabilities to be followed at the University of Sharjah Dental Hospital. There was also a workshop on dental care and the causes of cavity. The day also included dialogue sessions on improving eating behavior and habits for people with disabilities.
Students of the American Academy of developmental Medicine and Dentistry at University of Sharjah organized the campaign headed by Anne Younan, University of Sharjah Dental Medicine Alumna, and alumna Mira Al Marzooqi, Educational Projects Manager, and under the supervision of Dr.Shadi Alkhatib, Specialist in Special Care Pediatric Dentistry at the University Dental Hospital – University of Sharjah.
