His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, President of the University of Sharjah, affirmed that the student is the main focus of the University that it works on through providing all of the essential requirements for academic growth and excellence, which in turn instills in the student a spirit for hard work, academic success, and fosters the value of ethical and social responsibility.
This came during His Highness' speech at the graduation ceremony of the Spring 2018 batch of University of Sharjah male students, which was in the attendance of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.
His Highness started his speech by extending his congratulations to the graduates and their families for their success as it represents the success of the University of Sharjah and reaffirms its position globally as an institute for academic excellence. He also pointed out that the University was recently able to reap the benefits from the collective hard work of its faculty members, scientists and researchers by rising to a higher standing globally in comparison with other academic institutions – an achievement only possible through its full establishment as a comprehensive academic and cultural platform and through the hard work of its members.
His Highness continued that the University has recently developed its educational and academic programs and has established a number of urban and infrastructure projects to reach the prestigious status to which it aspires. He added that they transformed the English Language Center from teaching only the English language to teaching the rest of the world languages and granting a bachelor's degree in each, respectively. French language will be the first program to be offered followed in the near future by the rest of world languages such as German and Chinese.
As for the infrastructure and urban planning of the University, His Highness declared that they have thought of an ideal solution for student traffic inside the University, which allows them to socialize and protect them from the high temperatures and humidity while keeping the aesthetics of University's architecture and its originality. Thus, they plan on establishing a hub for male students and another for female students connected by covered and air-conditioned corridors to create a comfortable academic environment for the students. The hub will be the starting point acting as a station where students meet and are provided with all the resources they require such as computers, comfortable seating, and social interaction opportunities. Students can also move through this hub to pass first by the library building (for each the males and females campuses) and end at the scientific research and graduate studies buildings.
The two forums will be an excellent addition not only due to their aesthetic but also in the social, cultural and scientific connections it creates for the students. The University of Sharjah considered the students its foundation and therefore, it is constantly working on providing the best environment to match the high quality of students enrolled in the University and to foster their academic excellence, commitment to knowledge and science, and the instill in them the best ethics and principles, the Ruler of Sharjah said. He added that starting from the upcoming academic year, with the aim of allowing each student the opportunity to fully benefit from the resources at the University of Sharjah and to ensure the best academic priming, each student enrolled in the University and does not have a family residence must complete at least one year in the University's dorms; to accommodate that, the University reduced its housing fees by 50%.
The Ruler of Sharjah continued reaffirming the University's keenness on attracting students and providing all the requirements essential for creating a welcoming scientific and academic atmosphere. The hub is one of these requirements, which will help the student to remain in the University by providing 24 hour support to meet all their needs.
He also highlighted the responsibility of the University towards its students and their academic excellence in addition to ensuring their best moral and ethical growth as the students are the main image representatives of the University of Sharjah in society and the academic scene.
On this special occasion, His Highness addressed the graduates and called on them to rely on God in everything they do and to be faithful to God in the work fields to which you will belong. He assured them that the University will always be ready to meet your needs.
