His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, President of the University of Sharjah, affirmed that the University as it celebrates the graduation of its medical and health sciences students will be witness to the accomplishments of its graduates. Those who will be able to meet the medical and health demands of the United Arab Emirates and the countries to which they belong, and contribute with their knowledge and expertise to the national modern development.
His Highness declared this during his speech at the graduation ceremony of the Medicine and Health Sciences Colleges students at the University of Sharjah and in the attendance of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah addressed the great development in the Medical and Health Sciences campus at the University of Sharjah adding that the mission he had when he first established the Colleges was to never stop developing and improving them. He mentioned some of the most recent improvements in the College of Medicine, which are renewing and updating the anatomy, physiology, and microbiology laboratories with the latest technologies; updating the endoscopy unit at the Clinical Department in the College; equipping the tissue and cells bank with modern refrigerants with temperatures below 160 ° C; as well as equipping the laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment to conduct research on newly spread diseases in the community including diabetes, asthma, and cancer. He added that efforts in the drugs development unit resulted in getting two drugs patents, which will be registered for the first time at the University of Sharjah.
His Highness elaborated that the University of Sharjah signed a number of cooperation agreements with various international universities such as Lubeck University in Germany and the University of Ottawa in Canada to conduct research and supervise Master's and PhD students with the aim of granting them a joint degree in Medicine and Health Sciences. The University of Sharjah is also working on developing several postgraduate programs including Master's programs in family medicine, diabetes, physiotherapy and nursing, and pharmacy as well as several programs from the College of Dentistry in Surgery and Orthodontics. Moreover, the latest developed programs were in biomedicine and health informatics. He added that the Dental and General Medicine Mobile Clinics continuously work with several government authorities and charity organizations to spread awareness about medicine and healthy practices as well as to treat the residents, especially the elderly and those suffering from disabilities. The Mobile Clinics, he continued, were granted a number of awards for serving the community and the country and the Emirate of Sharjah, as a result, was recognized an elderly-friendly emirate.
Addressing the Medicine and Health Sciences graduates, the Ruler of Sharjah spoke of the special educational environment prepared with the most advanced knowledge and resources in which the students have been equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to play their role in caring for people's health and treating them where possible. He also urged them to always seek new knowledge and understanding in their fields.
His Highness ended his speech by congratulating the graduates and their families for their efforts throughout their academic journeys and wished them continued success in their lives. He also thanked the University of Sharjah administration and the Colleges of Medicine and Health Sciences staff and faculty members for their role in supporting and educating the students.
The ceremony began with the UAE National Anthem and recitation of some Quran verses, following which His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, gave a word on this occasion through which he congratulated His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah on the graduation of this outstanding batch from the University in the fields of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Health Sciences.
The Chancellor of the University of Sharjah continued that due to His Highness providing the best educational environment at the University of Sharjah, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and resources as well as the best modern teaching and training methods in each College, it allowed the University to prepare outstanding graduates in terms of knowledge, mindsets, and skills. He added that His Highness ensured the establishment of one of the most important and largest medical excellence and education campuses on the national, regional, and global scales in terms of its unites, facilities, and tools for training and educating medical and health sciences students. The University of Sharjah has also established a University Hospital, a Dental Hospital which included (115) dental clinics, a Clinical Training Center, the Sharjah Surgical Institute, and the Research Institute Of Medical & Health Sciences. These centers and institutes work on several scientific research projects in the field of Medicine and Health Sciences with various government authorities and private organizations in the country. Some of the work conducted at these centers includes training doctors, nurses, and medical technicians; research on cancer, diabetes, heart diseases, contagious diseases, and drug development. The Research Institute of Medical and Health Sciences, he added, collaborates with a number of international centers in the United States, Canada, Japan, France, Australia, amongst others, and is considered the base for the Master and Ph.D. programs in Molecular Medicine and its Applications at the University of Sharjah.
Prof. Al Naimiy continued addressing the students declaring that some of whom are graduating from the College of Medicine, which has acquired international academic accreditation this year for all of its educational and training programs, especially in surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He added that the University of Sharjah is collaborating with, and will continue to collaborate, in scientific and medical areas with several international universities, centers, and institutes.
Following the Chancellor's speech, the official graduation ceremony commenced with His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah granting the graduating students their certificates, which totaled (582) students from the Colleges of: Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, and Health Sciences.
Student Aisha Salem Al Sweidi gave the graduating students' address during which she thanked His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah for his unceasing support and for providing them with the ideal environment to pursue their medical education and acquire the knowledge they need to enable them to play their roles in serving society and the country. She also directed her gratitude to the University of Sharjah faculty members, administrative staff, and their families for their efforts in encouraging and supporting them throughout their academic journeys.
At the conclusion of the graduation ceremony, Prof. Qutayba Hamid, Dean of the College of Medicine, invited all the graduating students in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, President of the University of Sharjah, to take the Doctor's Oath to perform their medical duties while upholding the best medical ethics and principles.
The graduation ceremony was attended by a number of sheikhs, officials, centers' directors, deans and department heads, faculty and staff members at the University of Sharjah, and the graduates' families.
