Under the patronage of His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, the College of Fine Arts and Design participated in a fashion show to showcase the graduation projects of the students from the Department of Fashion Design with Textile. Attending the fashion show were Her Highness Sheikha Hend Faisal Al Qassemi, Chairperson of The Board of Trustees at the College of Fashion and Design in Dubai and owner of Velvet HQ – the organizer of the International Dubai Fashion Week; Prof. Abdul Sahib Mehdi, Acting Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Design at UoS; and a number of faculty members and the parents of the participating students.
As part of the International Dubai Fashion Week events, the fashion show was held at the Palazzo Versace hotel in Dubai, and had the support of the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation. It included six designs inspired by the modern woman's life, personal journeys, kinetic engineering, and the inner beauty of the human body. The show also allowed the participating graduating students the opportunity to present their design to some of the most distinguished designers in the world, celebrities, brand managers and editors, and international press interested in fashion design.
The UoS students' show highlighted the following project concepts: "Shrouded Ambivalence" by student Abeer Shello, "Beyond Skin Deep" by student Maei Alhmoudi, "Sanctuary Itinerary" by student Ameera Khawaja, "Self-Absence" by student Mariam Latifi, "Kintetic Architecture" student Raghd Bayrakdar, and "Cultural Movement" by student Roua Mustafa.
At the end of the International Dubai Fashion Week, H.H. Sheikha Hend Faisal Al Qassemi congratulated the students on their success in presenting their graduation fashion design projects in a creative, unique way, and expressed her belief in their potential to become some of the best world fashion designers in the future.
In concluding their fashion show, the UoS students expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to showcase their work at the International Dubai Fashion Week, and for the audience's reception and positive support of their graduation projects, adding that it is positive reinforcement and support that encourages and inspires them to create.
