A team of University of Sharjah (UoS) researchers comprised of Eng. Mohammad Ali Khalil, Research Assistant at The UoS' Research Institute of Sciences and Engineering; Dr. Khaled Hamad, Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering; and Prof. Abdullah Shanableh, Director of Research Institute of Sciences and Engineering; was awarded the second place in the Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport – Best Academic Research category, for their research paper: "Modeling of Road Noise Using Unconventional Methods." Their research developed mathematical models based on artificial intelligence to predict the noise level on the roads of the Emirate of Sharjah, which could be applied to find solutions to the noise problems resulting from roadway traffic. It is worth mentioning that the Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport, which was launched in 2008, aims to encourage initiatives and innovative ideas promoting sustainable transport solutions in general; whereas the Best Academic Research Award targets academic professionals who have conducted the best original research in the field of sustainable transport.
