Under the Patronage of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, the University of Sharjah (UoS) witnessed the opening of the 6th International Students' Dental Conference under the title "Discovering Excellence to Become the Change of Tomorrow". Organized by UoS' Dental Student Association, the two-day conference is held at UoS Medical Campus on 28th-29th of January. Over 600 participants from 13 countries will take part in the conference.
The event was opened by Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of UoS, accompanied by Prof. Qutayba Hamid Al Heialy, Vice Chancellor for Medical Colleges and Health Sciences and Dean of College of Medicine; and Prof. AB Rani Samsudin, Acting Dean of the College of Dental Medicine Also attended the opening ceremony, Prof. Athanasios E. Athanasiou, Dean of College of Dental Medicine – Mohammed bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences; Prof. Mohamed Said Hamed, Dean of College of Dental Medicine – Gulf Medical University; Prof. Dr. Muhammed Mustahsen, Dean of College of Dental Sciences – RAK Medical & Health Sciences University; and a vast crowd of professors, experts and students.
The conference began with reciting verses from the Holy Quran and playing the UAE National Anthem, followed by the entrance of flags of participant countries. Prof. Qutayba Hamid Al Heialy then welcomed the audience and expressed highest appreciation and gratitude to H. H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, for His Highness's patronage of the conference and continuous support of all events of the University. Prof. Qutayba also thanked Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy for supporting student events, and praised the organizing committee and conference officials.
Prof. Qutayba expressed his joy with the vast crowd of students who participated in the conference from all over the world, stressing that the intention of the conference conforms to UoS' goal set by its president, H.H. Ruler of Sharjah, to attend to scientific research at early stages of education to attain better outcomes that promote research and innovations and develop the community. Prof. Qutayba thanked the participant colleges of dental medicine for their support, particularly: Colleges of Dental Medicine at Mohammed bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Ajman University, and RAK University.
Prof. AB Rani Samsudin also welcomed the audience and expressed his appreciation to H.E Chancellor of UoS for attending the opening ceremony and members of the organizing committees. He stressed on the importance of exchange of knowledge and expertise between students and members of the teaching bodies, along with the discussions that will engage several ideas and contribute in the development of the educational process in terms of teaching methods and educational content. He assured that the participation of over 600 students from 27 colleges and 13 countries reflects the essence of UoS' motto, as truly "where civilizations meet".
In his speech, student Mohammed Alaa Wazzan, Head of UoS' Dental Student Association, said that ISDC's motto, which is "Discovering Excellence to Become the Change of Tomorrow", is symbol for college work among the organizing bodies of the conference. Achievements are made when the will and cooperation of those who share the same goal and vision meet, to accomplish innovation and excellence.
The 6th edition of the International Students' Dental Conference (ISDC) witnessed the involvement of 600 students from world universities in 13 countries including: the United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Arab Republic of Egypt, Sultanate of Oman, Iraq, Jordan, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Turkey, South Korea, Czech Republic, Russia and Pakistan.
ISDC's scientific committee received over 55 research papers carefully chosen by top experts and thinkers from the University of Sharjah and outside UoS. The committee chooses 27 research to be displayed in the conference, which will include 14 specialized workshops. In addition, 6 internationally recognized speakers will talk about various topics in the field of dental medicine, such as methods of medical management, epidemiology, dental fillings and gum diseases.
