Under the patronage of H.E. Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah (UoS), the first meeting of the academic advisory council was held at UoS and headed by Prof. Elsiddig Ahmed El Mustafa El Sheikh, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. Included in the council, Prof. Maamar Bettayeb, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies, Prof. Qutayba Hamid Al Heialy, Vice Chancellor for Medical Colleges and Health Sciences and Dean of College of Medicine, Mr. William Matt Easdown, Vice Chancellor for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Dr. Salah Taher, Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs, Prof. Adnan Ibrahim Sirhan, Assistant Chancellor of Branch Affairs and Dean of Community College, and a number of deans of colleges, directors of institutes and centers, heads of departments and student members.
Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy opened the meeting by welcoming the attendees and wishing the meeting would be a step towards strengthening and improving academic rules and regulations in UoS and embracing constructive feedback that encourages students' positive energy in the academic, cultural and social fields. The UoS is known to provide the highest quality of education, curriculums, programs, activities and events that promote the values and knowledge of students in various disciplines and fields. It is always keen on reaching new frontiers in terms of providing the best practices that serve the community.
Regulated by Prof. Elsiddig Ahmed El Mustafa El Sheikh, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the meeting's agenda included a report on UoS' achievements and the accomplishments of its branches, students and members of the teaching body. It also highlighted the latest updates on the ranking of the UoS and the academic accreditation of new programs, as presented by Prof. Esam El-Din Agamy, Dean of the Deanship of Quality Assurance, Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation.
Prof. Elsiddig Ahmed El Mustafa El Sheikh reviewed statistical information on the decisions and recommendations of the plans and curriculums committee for the new academic courses and plans of various colleges as brought to the deans.
Mr. William Matt Easdown overviewed the strategic plan prepared by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). Dr. Radhi Al Zubaidi, Director of the Center for Continuing Education and Professional Development (CCEPD), gave a brief introduction on the training plan prepared by CCEPD in cooperation with Sharjah Govt. Directorate of Human Resources on the training and development courses given to Sharjah Govt. staff, preparatory courses of B.A. job seekers, and training courses of undergraduate job seekers.
Members of the academic advisory council, with the participation of student members, discussed several topics and suggestions concerning the academic process in UoS, methods of improving such process and promoting the quality of offered programs.
