Within the last weeks, the University of Sharjah has received international academic accreditation for (18) additional programs from highly reputable world accreditation boards.
Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, announced the news. He noted that the College of Engineering received last week international accreditation by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) for eight academic programs launched by UoS's College of Engineering. These include Bsc. programs in architectural, civil, computer, electrical, electronic, industrial, mechanical, nuclear, sustainable and renewable engineering.
In the same week, three academic programs provided by the College of Sciences obtained international accreditation by ABET Applied Sciences Branch, which is the first time the ABET gives accreditation to applied sciences programs. The new accredited programs are: Bsc. in chemistry, mathematics and biotechnologies. The College of Sciences at UoS had already received academic accreditation for the Bsc. in information technology – multimedia and Bsc. in computer sciences.
The UoS's College of Business Administration had received last week international accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) for its programs, added Prof. Hamid Al Naimiy. The college provides Bachelor of Science programs in accounting, finance, business administration (management and marketing), public administration, and information systems; and Master of Business Administration and Executive Master in Business Administration.
Prof. Hamid assured that the University of Sharjah is bound to accomplish such international achievements as it implements the wise directives attained from the scientific and practical experience of its President, His Highness Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, in the fields of education and higher education. His Highness's experience in these highly-regarded fields rely on his personal experience in studying for higher degrees and his practical expertise in communicating with such reputable scientific institutions worldwide. One of the key directives of His Highness to the University of Sharjah, is to make best efforts to improve UoS' achievements in international fields.
The University of Sharjah had obtained last year international accreditation from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC) for all academic programs provided by the College of Communication, noted Prof. Al Naimiy. The UoS College of Communication provides Bachelor of Arts programs in electronic media, graphic design and multimedia, journalism, and public relations. In addition, the Bachelor of Science programs in computer sciences and multimedia design also received international accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
UoS is seeking international accreditation for all of its programs, especially from highly-regarded and credible accreditation institutions as an indicator of quality of UoS' programs.
