About the Forum

College of Business Administration in University of Sharjah organizes “University of Sharjah Business Forum” in May 10th, 2011. The theme of the Forum is: Corporate governance challenges and responses. The forum seeks to establish a strong connection with business community and to create a positive interaction between business community, students and University of Sharjah faculty.

The global financial crisis attracted the attention of United Arab Emirates economics and financial authorities to focus on corporate governance standards. Thus, Ministry of Economy published Ministerial Resolution No. 518 of 2009 which enhances corporate governance rules and discipline standards for UAE Public Joint Stock Companies.

As a result, the Forum opens a panel discussion regarding corporate governance practices in the UAE from different perspectives. The main speaker will be Dr. Nasser Saidi, Chief Economist and Head of External Relations at the DIFC Authority (DIFCA) and Executive Director of the Hawkamah-Institute for Corporate Governance. In addition, the panel discussion will include Mr. Hussain Mohammed Al Mahmoudi, the Director General of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Obaid Al-Zuabi, Research Advisor and Director of Research and Development in Emirates Securities’ and Commodities Authority and Mr. Gary Watts the Head of the law firm Al Tamimi & Company's Corporate Practice in the UAE, Mr. Deniz Kilyar, Director in Oracle and leading the Industry Solutions Consulting team for the Government, Hight Education and Helthcare Industries across Middle East and Africa, and Mr. Nick Nadal, a Director at Hawkamah-Institute for Corporate Governance.

Moreover, the Forum aims at giving the chance to University of Sharjah students to present their projects as a poster, oral presentation or both. Hence, students are strongly encouraged to participate and compete in the Forum. The organizing committee will choose the best projects to present them and it will announce the students’ names and their supervisors in the media and the University website. In addition, there will be ten-cash awards for those distinguished projects.
