The University of Sharjah Competition in Information Technology for High School Students

The College of Sciences at the University of Sharjah invites high school students to participate in the Information Technology Competitions. IT has become an integral part of the life of young people and will continue to play a vital role in their studies as well as their future professional life. Hence, the more informed they are about this field the better they perform as students as well as in their future careers.
 
The competition is structured to attract High School students at different levels and with different interests in IT. Students should completed their projects at home or in school and present them on the day of the competition at the University of Sharjah.
 
General Information for Participation
 
o A school may participate in one or both IT Competitions that are described below.
o Maximum of two participating teams per school (one team per project).
o Maximum of 3 students per team.
o Projects must be original and should not have been submitted to other competitions
o Registration of every participating team is required
o Online project submission (softcopy) is required.
o Inquiries on the IT Competitions are to be forwarded to: ITComp@sharjah.ac.ae
 
 
Important Dates :
o Registration of participating teams is on or before January 20, 2014.
o Online project submission is on or before January 22, 2014.
o Notification of acceptance of projects is on January 26, 2014.
 
Information for Participants
 
Upload instructions will be provided after the registration
 
Registration : every participating team is required to register and provide the required information of the project and team members via the registration page
 
Submission: Participating projects must be submitted as follows:

  1. Website Design: You will need to upload a compressed folder containing all files/elements used in building the website.
  2. Poster: You will need to upload a softcopy of poster work. Additionally, print the poster on A1 paper and bring it with on the day of the competition. You should attach/glue the A1 paper to a white foam paper of the same size and you may leave 2” borders on all sides.
  3. Animation: You will need to upload the final animation in either MP4 or MOV format.
  4. Upload instructions will be provided after the registration
 
     
    IT Competitions
Competition #1:
Website Design Project : Build a website on any suitable topic:
 
Evaluation Criteria:
  1. Overall Impressions: look and feel; download time; readability, etc.
  2. Navigation and Design: Ease of use; using proper links; website size (at least five pages).
  3. Content: Useful information; use of multimedia elements (e.g. graphics , animation, etc.).
 
Competition #2:
Artwork Project : Students can select to work on one of the following projects on any suitable topic:
  1. Poster project
  2. Animation project
The topic of the selected project should be within the theme of the 3rd Sharjah Science Festival, which is Education.
 
A. Poster project:

o Poster Size A1 (59.4 × 84.1cm or in inches 23.4 × 33.1” )
o Portrait Orientation
o Resolution 300 dpi.
o Color model CMYK.
 
Poster Evaluation Criteria:
  1. Creativity
  2. Appropriateness
  3. Clarity of Message
  4. Overall impact
 
B. Animation project :
Specifications:
o Use any animation software to build an animation.
o Duration of the animation must be 1-2 minutes.
o The animation should play as stand alone without user interaction.
o You should have the copyright of the elements used in the design (images, sounds, etc.)
o Final Animation in MP4 or MOV format.
 
Animation Evaluation Criteria:
  1. Creativity
  2. Appropriateness
  3. Clarity of Message
  4. Overall impact
