The Conference of Food and Medicine in light of Recent Developments
Significance of the Conference
Islamic legislations demonstrate concerns about human health mandating that man observe his food and medicine in order to take what is halal. Imported food and medicine that are available at almost every house at the present pose a serious challenge for Islamic scholars to deal with.  They are required to exert efforts in order to find out the Shari’a rules concerning emerging types of food and medicine. Efforts have to be collective; that is, it is necessary to hold a conference bringing together Islamic scholars and specialists in medicine and food sciences with the aim of formulating scientific flawless rules in line with Shari’a principles to determine the compliance of certain types of food and medicine with Shari’a.
The College of Shari’a and Islamic Studies exerts efforts in community service and development as part of the College’s priorities. As part of these efforts, in cooperation with the College of Health Sciences and within the activities of celebrating the election of Sharjah as the Capital of Islamic Culture for 2014, the College of Shari’a will organize this conference at the University of Sharjah in which a large number of scholars and specialists will participate.
The conference will be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah on 16 and 17, April 2014.
