The University of Sharjah's Center for Continuing Education and Professional Development organized the graduation ceremony of the first and second batches from the Professional Diploma in Parliamentary Work program in collaboration with the Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC). The program is unique in the Arab region as it is the only program available and prepares community members with the skills and knowledge necessary for parliamentary studies. The program included 53 enrollees from various organizations in the country and lasted two and a half months with a 100 training hours. Professionals from inside and outside the University of Sharjah supervised the program.
H.E. Khawla Al Mulla, Chairperson of the Sharjah Consultative Council, attended the ceremony along with H.E. Ahmed Shabib Al Dhaheri, Secretary-General of the Federal National Council (FNC); H.E. Ahmed Saeed Al Jarwan, Secretary-General of the SCC; H.E. Dr. Jaber Mohammed Al Zaabi, FNC's Assistant Secretary-General for Legislation and Oversight; as well as a number of the Federal National Council and the Sharjah Consultative Council members.
From the University of Sharjah, H.E. Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University, attended the ceremony alongside Prof. Elsiddig Ahmed ElMustafa El Sheikh, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs; Mr. Majid Al-Jarwan, Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs; Prof. Adnan Ibrahim Sirhan, Assistant Chancellor of Branch Affairs and Dean of Community College; Prof. Radhi Al Zubaidi, Director of the Center for Continuing Education and Professional Development; and a number of faculty and staff members.
During her word on the occasion, H.E. Al Mulla stressed her pride in the first and second batches and their accomplishments. The SCC offered this program following the support of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah. This program, she continued, benefits from the expertise of the community and national cadres and professionals and gathers those with future visions and work in the parliamentary field to develop it and gain knowledge in the field. She congratulated the graduates and thanked the University, the strategic partner, for their support as well as the SCC team and all those who had a hand in developing this program.
For his part, the Chancellor of the University extended his congratulations to His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah on the occasion as it meets the demands and standards of His Highness' vision for fostering the growth of the Emirate of Sharjah to keep up with the standards of modern civilizations and development. This vision was expressed by the request of the Chairperson of the SCC for cooperation with the University of Sharjah to introduce the parliamentary diploma program to qualify the various national cadres working or those that will work in the future in the SCC. He also addressed the role of the Center for Continuing Education and Professional Development in effectively executing this unique program and preparing its educational and training curriculum. He continued that in preparing this program, they took into account that the components are topics directly related to parliamentary work and national diplomacy as well as parliamentary media and international relations, coupled with national and international experiences, especially with the experiences of the UAE. His Excellency concluded his address by congratulating the graduates and urged them to work on a solid scientific and methodological basis that will be based on the long-term vision of national and social development.
The diploma included many topics that focused on the constitution, the state, government, elections, parliaments (legislative or consultative bodies), major constitutional systems in the world, the constitutional system in the UAE, legislative and advisory bodies in finance, as well as international conventions and the constitution, the role of legislative and advisory bodies in national development, the working guide of members of Parliament, parliamentary diplomacy and protocol skills.
Prof. Al Zubaidi also congratulated the graduates on this accomplishment especially in developing their personal and professional knowledge and skills that will aid them in serving their national duties. In the preparation of this program, he added, the scientific committee was keen to review the results of the first batch that consisted of 27 enrollees and showed great success, which encouraged the committee to start with the second batch of 26 enrollees. He continued that the success and excellence of the two batch was due to the efforts of the faculty members and specialists as well as the graduates' commitment and motivation.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, H.E. Al Mulla along with H.E. Prof. Al Naimiy and Prof. Al Zubaidi awarded the graduates, faculty members, and the trainers from the University and the national organizations.
