Historically, the value of procurement was measured by our ability to quickly issue purchase orders to our suppliers, as well as our ability to expedite delivery of ordered products. The nature of our job was primarily transactional, with little time available to provide strategic value to our customers. With the introduction of Banner in 2009, the vast majority of campus purchase orders are now issued electronically, with many products delivered on time through our partner organizations.Increased efficiencies in the ordering and delivery processes have resulted in a gradual restructuring of the department, which has allowed us to shift our focus toward providing value beyond the transaction. By using a robust analytics toolset, our Spend Analytics teams continuously analyzes campus and UC system wide spend to identify patterns that warrant a contract for a particular commodity or supplier. Using this data, our Strategic Procurement team negotiates agreements that not only provide significant cost savings, but incorporate terms and conditions that are favorable to the University.
