Mission and Objectives 

 

  • The UOS Libraries’ mission is basically based upon supporting educational process and research through acquiring information resources to fulfill the needs of the university community, including: University’s teaching & administrative staff, University students,
  • Processing, organizing, arranging, and offering these resources in a manner based upon high library standards and practices,
  • Providing training and learning opportunities for  users to highly enable them utilize these resources adopting a mechanism of continuous user teaching and training,
  • Enhancing cooperation and coordination with counterpart institutions to maximize resource sharing,
  • Maintaining qualified and trained Library staff to ensure that the Library work and service offered is carried out in a manner that commensurate with the organizational needs of the academic community of the University of Sharjah,
  • Using on-going job skills development, including: training, teaching, and keeping in touch with new trends in the library and information realm.
  • The Libraries apply information and telecommunication technology in all activities and services provided as a response to the aspirations of the University Administration and keeping in close touch with the world developments in information management, storage, retrieval and dissemination.

 

Goals

  • Library Resources: Acquire various kinds of information resources to support the new and existing needs of academic programs in learning, teaching and research.
  • Library Services: Provide the university community with a high quality, innovative and excellent services that fulfill their requirements and meet their high expectations.
  • Library Staff: Recruit library staff that possesses skills, knowledge and experience as well as improve the library staff skills and abilities, to provide innovative and outstanding services.
  • User Education: Provide information literacy programs / library skills session in different modules, to enable the users identify, search, locate, evaluate and use the information effectively as well as update of the user's guide, library tutorials, and databases brochures  
  • Access to Library Resources: Maintain quality access to the local as well as external resources using the state-of-the-art methodology based on cost effectively and highly satisfying fashion.
  • Library Environment: Manage the library space and environment to ensure a secure, comfortable and encourage access to the library resources
  • IT Infrastructure: Maintain the libraries' IT infrastructure, to accommodate new workstations, printers, scanners, photocopiers, and sustain the Internet and wireless networking as well as ensure and maintain the availability of the facilities throughout the academic year, without any interruption in the service
  • Promotion and Marketing: Promote the library services and resources among the university community and increase the library contribution and interaction with the university community
  • Cooperation & Collaboration: Build a partnerships and consortia with local, regional and international libraries, to share knowledge and resources and rationalize expenditures.
     

Responsibilities

  • Planning, developing and implementing policies and programs that are compatible with the university’s mission.
  • Supporting the current and future curriculum and research by selecting, acquiring, and organizing a collection of resources in both print and electronic formats.
  • Providing Information Literacy Programs to enable all users locate, evaluate and effectively use needed information
  • Interpreting the collection to all users, assisting them in the utilization of the resources as well as online electronic databases.
  • Evaluating the collection, services and facilities in order to improve the effectiveness and the efficiency of the library.
  • Sharing resources, services and ideas by cooperating with all units of the university as well as other libraries locally and regionally.
