Discussions between UOS and Union University

Sharjah-UOS:

Prof. Eng. Samy Mahmoud, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, met with Prof. Stephen Charles Ainlay, President of Union College - New York, who was visiting the UAE upon invitation from the President of the New York University in Abu Dhabi.

At the onset of the meeting, Prof. Samy Mahmoud gave an overview of the University’s initial stages, its educational and academic composition, and the University’s academic programs across various undergraduate and graduate degrees that it offers.  The Chancellor also elaborated upon the numerous local and global cooperative agreements between the University of Sharjah and some of the most prestigious universities and specialized scientific institutions and centers in the world.

The Chancellor and Pres. Ainlay explored the possibility of academic and scientific exchange between the University of Sharjah and Union University to include student and faculty exchange as a first step toward further collaboration together.

Prof. Ainlay also extended an invitation to the Chancellor to participate in the near future in an international conference held annually by Union University on the subject of sustainable and renewable energy.

It is important to emphasize that Union College is considered one of the most highly recognized universities in the state of New York where it was founded in 1795.  Union University is now comprised of numerous specializations in humanities and applied and medical sciences and has, from among its alumni, the Nobel Prize winner in Medicine (1976) and the former 21st president of the United States, Chester A. Authur.
