
Establishment of First National Lab for X-Rays in UOS
Sharjah-UOS:
Prof. Eng. Samy A. Mahmoud, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah (UOS), announced that the last phases of establishment of First National Laboratory for X-Rays at the University’s laboratories ended. This laboratory will be opening soon officially.
In collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna and UAE Ministry of Energy, the laboratory is being established with efforts of the Research Group in the Applied Physics Department at the College of Sciences in UOS including Dr. Hussain Alawadhi, Dr. Attaelmanan Gaffar and Dr. Najeh Jisrawi with participation of Prof. Naser Hamdan from the American University of Sharjah.

The Chancellor added that this laboratory is the first of its kind in the Gulf Region. It aims to focus on X-rays applications in scientific researches including environmental materials, archeological and valuable pieces, high-tech applications used in criminal and security field (Forensics), food safety, consumer products, building materials and metals in addition to conduct related researches at the national level.

The Japanese Horiba Co. recently ended the setting up and installation of X-Ray Fluorescence in the laboratory. An expert from the company trained the lab’s crew of technicians who will be responsible about use and maintenance of this machine. The lab will include advanced software and analytical applications that will be available for researchers from UAE.
