Participants of Athar program recommend establishment of A heritage preservation network

The Participants of the “Athar” program, the regional workshop held for three days at the University of Sharjah (UOS) under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah and the Supreme President of the University, recommended establishment of a network consisting of organizations concerned about heritage preservation in the Arab region.

During this workshop, participants expressed appreciationg for the support of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Al Qassimi for the International Center for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) and its activities including this program “Athar”. They emphasized that His Hghness’ support to this program has made a significant impact on the preservation of cultural heritage in the Arab region and praised the University’s role to make this workshop successful.

Dr. Zaki Aslan, Representative of the International Center for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) and Director of “Athar” program, said that this workshop aimed to establish a network consisting of specialized organizations in training to exchange experiences in heritage preservation in the Arab region and discuss programs related to preservation and restoration of cultural property and museums.
Representatives from nine Arab countries (Egypt, Bahrain, Jordan, Algeria, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, Tunis, and UAE), Canada and Belgium in addition to representatives, specialists and consultants from international organizations and heritage centers participated in this event. The network that will be established will have an online information center. It will provide information about programs and organizations in the various heritage fields.
