His Highness Sheikh Sultan Al Qassimi overseas signing of agreement between UOS and Julphar

 

Sharjah-UOS:

H. H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah and the Supreme President of University of Sharjah, oversaw  last Thursday the signing of a collaborative agreement between the University of Sharjah (UOS) and Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries (Julphar).

The signing of the agreement  was attended by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Salem Al Qassimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Salem bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qassimi, Consultant to H.H. - Sharjah Ruler's Office, Prof. Amr Abdul Hamid, Consultant of Higher Education for the Ruler of Sharjah, and a number of VIPs from the government of Sharjah and Julphar. 

The agreement was signed by Prof. Eng. Samy A. Mahmoud, Chancellor of University of Sharjah (UOS), and Dr. Ayman Sahli, General Manager of Julphar. Also in attendance were Prof. Husam Al Din Hamdi, Vice Chancellor of the Colleges of Medicine and Health Sciences and Dean of the College of Medicine, Dr. Salah Taher Al Haj, Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs, Mr. Saoud Ali Al Nuaimy, Director of External Relations at Julphar, and a number of UOS Colleges’ Deans and faculty.

After signing the agreement, Dr. Ayman Sahli, General Manager of Julphar, announced that Julphar is ready to recruit national graduates from  the UOS College of Pharmacy and the top-five expatriate graduates as well. He added that Julphar will also provide training for UOS students in different fields including the industrial and marketing fields. Technicians at Julphar will also benefit from medical training programs provided by the University, as well as learning the latest in scientific research  and developments.

Dr. Sahli stated that this collaboration is a strategic partnership that reflects Julphar’s vision of collaborating in scientific research fields, particularly biotechnology and pharmacology research, in order to support Julphar’s main project for manufacturing Insulin medicine 100% locally. Julphar has allocated 500 million dirhams to produce 50 million refills of Insulin annually. As a result, Julphar seeks to cooperate with researchers at the Colleges of Medicine and Health Sciences at UOS.

Prof. Samy emphasized that this agreement is an important step in the UOS academic process. It will help to achieve the University’s strategic objectives in scientific research and professional training. He said that the University looks forward to linking its experience with scientific applications and industry in order to serve national and regional growth and development. Through this agreement, the University will focus its efforts on the Julphar’ project “Production of Insulin” in terms of scientific research and studies.
