First:  English language Placement Test:

All new students at the University of Sharjah, except for those students who enroll in majors taught in the Arabic language, are required to take the TOEFL exam(at the University of Sharjah) in order to be admitted to the university. The University of Sharjah also accepts from outside the University the international TOEFL Exam with minimum score of 500 on the International TOEFL (paper based) or 173 on the International TOEFL (computer based test) (CBT) or 61 on the (Internet based test) (IBT). In addition, Academic IELTS (with an overall score of 5.0 & minimum of a 5.0 in each skill area) is accepted, provided that the certificate is still in effect.

o A student exits from the Intensive English Language Program (IEP) after obtaining at least 500 on the TOEFL test.

o A student who has obtained a score of less than 500 is placed in one of the 4 levels (1-4) in the IEP for a period of at least one semester or more at 25 class hours per week

o Students are given a grade of (A), (B), (C), (D) and (F) for courses in the IEP based on the final average score according to the student’s performance in a particular level.

o The final grade that a student receives in a level will be calculated into his/her university cumulative grade point average (CGPA).  The student’s final IEP grade (equivalent to 3 credit hours for each semester) can be counted at most two times.  If a student has studied more than two semesters in the IEP, only the last 2 semester averages will be calculated into his/her CGPA.  Credit hours in the IEP do not count towards the graduation requirements for a student’s academic program.

o Students are permitted to fail only one time in the IEP.  If a student fails more than one time, he/she must transfer to a major that is taught in Arabic.

o Students in the IEP are not permitted to register for any other university courses until after obtaining at least 500 on the TOEFL test.

o If a student Presents an International Toefl certificate or the academic IELTS certificate from outside the University and the score attained does not represent his/her true level of English , the University reserves the right to subject the student to an English Language proficiency exam at the University to determine his/her English language level.

Second:  Admission to the College of Communication and College of Fine Arts:

Third:  Admission to the College of Engineering and College of Sciences :
