Information Technology Center is a key support Center with its main focus on providing the optimal technology infrastructure oriented towards addressing the IT related needs for the administration of the University and supporting and enabling academic activities. It provides innovative technologies and learning resources by provisioning integrated online services through the UOS portal. It is responsible for providing multimedia solutions and technical support to the classrooms aimed to offer new ways of teaching and improve the academic use of technology. IT Center provides the communication technology for the organization and the management of information to serve the activities of the University.
IT Center explores new solutions to address the technology-aided teaching and learning needs of University of Sharjah academia by researching the latest technologies available. An electronic channel between UOS faculty members and the students is provided by Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS) through over 1000 online courses, which empower educators with online course management services such as Sharing of lecture notes and study materials, Course announcements, Assignments, Quizzes, Grade books, Discussion Boards, Forums and many more features to enhance instruction.
Latest Main achievements
- The ITC designed, developed and successfully completed His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi’s personal website in the first quarter of 2010.
- Banner system upgrade was successfully completed in early 2010. The upgrade has been a unique and sophisticated series of activities integrated towards enhancing the Banner platform at UOS.
- Instructional technologies training program was initiated, designed and conducted successfully campus-wide from November 2009 to March 2010, addressing the educational technology training needs of faculty members and teaching staff across Sharjah and Community College campuses with high satisfaction rating by the attendees.
- Infrastructure Storage backend was successfully upgraded to an advanced level for Disk expansion and higher performance early 2010 for providing better infrastructure support and solutions.
- ITC saw the move of the telecommunications infrastructure to a new and current system in February 2010. The upgrade project was successful and has potential to benefit UOS Community.
