The M.A Program in  Jurisprudence and its Foundations

Mission of the program:

The University of Sharjah is aiming to become the centre of excellence for thinking, science and culture on the regional and international levels through supporting scientific research. Postgraduate studies are the corner stone for scientific research and hence the University of Sharjah decided to establish postgraduate programs as one of its objectives and as an urgent necessity in the areas where the University has the required resources to establish such programs. The need to prepare qualified graduates to take leading roles in society and in judicial, educational and da‘awah institutions requires creating the opportunities for nationals and residents of this country to be able to complete their specialized studies and to take part in implementing the country's development plans.

The Department of Sharia has found that it has the required resources for launching a postgraduate program in Jurisprudence and its Foundations, including qualified faculty, the existence of a well-resourced library and the availability of other research aids. All of this can help to create such a program in the best possible way.

Goals of the program:

The program has the following objectives:

  1. Graduating qualified researchers in the field of foundations of jurisprudence.
  2. Creating the outstanding Islamic personality which has a sound understanding for the objectives of the Islamic Shariah from Qur'an and Sunnah and which can combine fundamentalism with modernity.
  3. Understanding the methods of mujtahid Islamic scholars and of deducing rules from evidence to revive the spirit of ijtihad.
  4. Providing students with knowledge and Shariah rules which make them capable of creating solutions for modern problems.
  5. Enforcing the spirit of belonging in the students toward their religion, ummah and civilization by being aware of the ability of Islamic Shariah to provide humanity with an everlasting source of rules for the systems that regulate the relationship between one human being and another.
