Overview

The Department of Research realizes the vision of the University of Sharjah in promoting Distinguished Research through support to Faculty and Students' research; projects, groups, publications, patents and many more, and due to its importance as a primary goal, the university offers the appropriate atmosphere to assure its development and sustainability, and encourages researchers through providing them with full support, aiming to raise the knowledge and develop scientific applications, and its contribution to social and economic growth.

The University of Sharjah has undoubtedly achieved a major leap forward in scientific research during the last few years. A large number of leading edge research projects have been funded and major research equipments have been made available to researchers in its laboratories. The university strives and is indeed qualified to become a leader in scientific research at the national and regional levels. It targets the following goals:

• Research excellence
• Support of solid, purposeful scientific research
• Emphasis on multidisciplinary research
• Involvement of undergraduate and graduate students in scientific research and the development of their research capabilities.

Various research grants are available:

• The Seed Grants, to allow faculty members who join the university to get some fund to start their research;
• The Targeted Research Grants, to promote and support research by faculty members in specific disciplines;
• The Interdisciplinary Research Grants, to help faculty members from various departments and/or colleges to work together on research problems that are of common interest; and
• The Collaborative Research Grants, for the management of research projects funded externally or cooperatively with other institutions and/or companies.

The By-laws and procedures that manage research at the university have been extensively revised within the last couple of years to better support the faculty members in their research either individually or as groups, and, ultimately, serve the enhancement of the quality of research carried out at the University of Sharjah.
